Jim Brulé

As a professional transformational storyteller and a death doula, Jim Brulé has spent his life standing with people at the thresholds of profound change. He works at the intersection of narrative and mortality, understanding that the stories we tell ourselves during life’s deepest transitions have the power to either bind us or set us free.
Through immersive seminars, foundational classes, and highly individualized programs, Jim guides participants not in the mechanics of performance, but in the sacred art of reflection. Drawing on a rich tapestry of global folklore, myth, and epic traditions, he helps individuals use ancient narratives as a mirror for their modern lives. His work is rooted in the belief that true storytelling is an act of communal healing and shared wisdom.
Jim’s calling as a death doula profoundly informs his approach to the “monsters” we encounter – whether they manifest as grief, shifting identities in retirement, or the heavy mantle of caregiving. In walking alongside those facing the end of life or other profound transitions, he has seen firsthand that our greatest challenges are rarely defeated by a sword. Instead, when we step away from the exhausting cycle of being either a victor or a victim, we can learn to engage with these forces as tricksters and shapeshifters – dangerous if ignored, but ultimately acting as fierce protectors and guides for our growth.
As the convener of the Healing Monsters community, Jim invites you to join this new narrative framework. Through the community’s retreats, seminars and classes, his ongoing writings on the Healing Monsters Substack, and his explorations on the From Cork to New York podcast, Jim offers a space of eldering, mutual insight, and compassionate support for whatever threshold you are crossing next.
